JBT is bringing innovations to improve efficiency, hygiene and product consistency, as well as new systems developed to improve customers’ eco credentials and save on unnecessary labor costs at the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) 2020, which is taking place at the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, Georgia until January 30.

Improvements to existing solutions and brand new innovations are on display as part of the JBT presence, with the focus on helping customers overcome typical difficulties faced during the production process, whether that be in retaining properly trained maintenance staff or in meeting retail industry demands for more environmentally-friendly packaging.

Improved systems
One of JBT’s longest-established businesses, Northfield, which has more than 1,000 freezers installed across North America, is showcasing recent R&D achievements at the JBT booth, with a big emphasis on hygienic improvements and ease of maintenance.

“There is a high degree of turnover of the maintenance teams within the food processing industry, which can be very frustrating for companies as machinery and equipment needs to be kept in good condition,” says Sara Porosky, JBT’s Division Product Manager for Freezers.

“We have done a lot of development work on the freezers in terms of upgrading them with new hygienic features, while the inside of the freezer will be completely redesigned.”

Another well-established JBT brand is DSI, which this year is bringing the JBT X-ray Guided Waterjet Portioning System to IPPE. The solution brings together a dual-lane, industry leading DSI 800 S Series waterjet system with JBT XVision’s new-generation Flexscan inspection system. The combined solution, which is focused on tougher pork applications such as rib racks, gives customers the ability to identify bones, fat and lean areas and make a cut informed by the X-ray, explains Jon Hocker, JBT’s Director of DSI and Global Product R&D.

“This is a world’s first for cutting ribs with the assistance of an X-ray, no matter how difficult the cut,” he continues. “It improves food quality and consistency, and automates the whole process including sorting. It can also be combined with other JBT solutions to form a complete line.”

New solutions
Proseal, a recent addition to the JBT family, is demonstrating two tray-sealing machines at the show – the GT2e and the GT4e, both of which are automatic, large-capacity, high-speed, in-line tray sealing systems with full vacuum facility designed to cut labor costs. As well as demonstrating the handling of a standard meat tray on the GT2e, Proseal is showcasing the forming and sealing of the eco-friendly HALOPACK® on the GT4e.

HALOPACK trays, which have been on the shelves of leading European retailers for more over five years, come with a tried and tested quality and suitability to both Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) applications and cool chain processing.

“The HALOPACK tray is quite new to market and can be used for a wide range of products, from ready meals to seafood,” says Kaitlin Wyatt, Brand Supervisor for Proseal America.

Another recent arrival to JBT, Prime Equipment Group, this year has a separate booth located near the main JBT presence at IPPE 2020, showing the company’s capacity to supply first and second processing solutions that cover everything from feather removal to deboning. Prime Equipment also has 12 machines on show at the event, of which five have been significantly upgraded.

JBT and Prime Equipment Group will be exhibiting at IPPE 2020 in Booths B5035, B5235 and B7219 at Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, Georgia until January 30.
